The response

This post is the response to the previous goodbye letter. May we always spur on one another towards love and life, however broken our world and hearts are.

When the rust and horror of this life scream at you to leave,
I want you to come back.
I always do.
The God that made you makes no mistakes.
But we do.
I do.
And if I yelled so loudly that I drowned out your pain,
I’m sorry.
There’s forgiveness for that though I don’t deserve it.
I shouldn’t have let your heart be second place, shouldn’t have let your body go that long without touch.
Shouldn’t have shattered when you were already in pieces.
When the rust and horror of this life scream at you to leave,
We want you to come back.
We always do.
Even when it seems that no one is listening,
There’s a choice.
To stay.
Please stay.
Ignore the false voices in your head and heart.
The ones that tell you, you mean nothing.
You are everything.
The universe, encoded in your DNA.
Your presence inscribed in our hearts.
God’s ruakh flowing through your lungs.
Breathe sweet life and clear your lungs.
Or if you can’t breathe, Jesus promised grace.
Or if you can’t forgive, Jesus promised mercy.
Or if you can’t stay, Jesus promised strength.
If you don’t cling to my human pleas, it’s okay.
The God that made you makes no mistakes.
Breathe sweet life and clear your lungs.

Alice, 1/25/24
