This is one of the first poems I ever wrote. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the topic was water-related. Water, in the form of rain, has always fascinated me. The drops that feed our bodies, as well as our souls. Perhaps you dread those rainy days sometimes. I do too. Yet, rainy days afford us time and space to reflect on God’s promises. To examine the changes in ourselves. The things we may overlook in our haste to leave our home in exchange for time in the sun.
The rain falls.
Its droplets wet my soul with questions.
They make me look within.
They take me to a place I’ve never been.
They bring me closer to our Creator.
And inside their watery depths I discover myself.
The thunder trembles.
It shakes the sky in tremendous passion.
A call to something greater.
Something new and terrifying,
As it rolls through the endless sky.
I see what I was.
The sun shines.
It lights up the sky after the storm passes.
Hope is the song it sings,
And I’ll be forever in awe of You, Jesus.
I look up after the storm and I see what I will be.
