The Things I Like

As you read this poem today, think about the things that bring you joy. Contemplate them in silence. The things that God gives us to enjoy and hope for.

“For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him.” Psalm 62:5 (ESV)

I like the sound of laughter when it’s contagious.
I like the sound of music when it speaks to you.
I like the sound of hearts beating in sync when there are tethers of joy formed.
I like the sound of prayers murmured in the dark when the darkness closes in.
My ears are filled with the wondrous sounds of living.
Yet
I like the space between the laughter,
To remind me that nothing in this world is permanent.
I like the space between the music,
To remind me that life is a balance of everything and nothing.
I like the space between our heart beats,
To remind me that I love you even when you’re absent sometimes.
I like the space between the breaths of my prayer,
To remind me that God is always present and listening.
My soul is filled with the silent spaces of infinite truth.
