I wrote this poem after meditating on verses found in Genesis 3, James 3, and John 16 of the bible. These passages encouraged me this week when I thought about the church and the state of the world. In turn I hope to encourage you with my following thoughts that were guided by the hope and wisdom of these passages. I pray that you will be filled with peace and your hearts focused on Jesus.
The wounded one knows our pain,
He understands our suffering and his love is greater than our shame,
This world has brought us many sorrows,
As it did him,
But even though his heel was struck by the serpent,
He crushed its head through his death and resurrection,
And he bore the weight and pain of all our sin,
The source of our shame.
Giving us life and pure hearts instead of just punishment,
Giving us the Spirit of truth who teaches, guides, and upholds us,
Building a church that will be, and is becoming a beautiful bride.
As we wait patiently for the moment,
When we will finally see Jesus face to face,
We often fail each other, blinded by selfish ambition, envy and pride,
And are in desperate need of forgiveness,
From each other,
Because that is the only way we can continually move forward in love and unity,
Forgiving from a heart that knows it has been completely forgiven by God,
As we live in a world that rejects us and aims to tie us down with heavy burdens.
May we continue to grow in love and not lose heart,
As we have not been abandoned,
But will overcome this world, suffering and pain,
Just as Jesus did,
For we are his church, children of God,
And by his wounds we are healed.
