Focal Point

It’s a new year and we have a new opportunity to be salt. The bible talks about us being “the salt of the earth”. As followers of Christ, we are called to spread goodness and love. It is very important because salt can lose its saltiness and become useless (at least, salt in the Hebrew bible days would). We were created to have substance and this poem is a reflection of the desire to set love and peace as the focal point of this new year.

Once you focus on the year behind,
It disappears.
Wanting to hide from your accusations.
Place the year on a scale and it tips
Perhaps not in the direction you desire.
This new dawn breathes a new year,
It is a force.
Asking you to be something better.
More like Christ with salt on your lips.
The focal point of peace and love and new life.
