Special January Post

It’s the fifth week of January and for our special post we decided to test our poetry skills. Alice and I wrote this poem together. I did the first half and she did the second half. The origin of the theme of this poem is from an encounter we had where Alice was deeply upset about something but tried not to show it. Through a smaller, unrelated fight, I caught a glimpse of what we now call “the pit”. That part of a person that holds all of our raw, unprocessed emotions, our sins. Where we store all things negative and heavy. All of our “pits” look different. We hold our emotions and reactions differently. Yet, no matter what your “pit” looks like, we have freedom in Christ. Those negative things, those sins and regrets that attempt to weigh us down, are washed clean by the blood of our Savior. God meets us where we are at. In our lowest lows and our highest highs. There’s no need to fill your pit with shamefulness and despair because God already knows the worst in all of us. And He saved us anyway. He loved us anyway. As this month ends, we encourage you to pray about bringing out the things you’ve kept inside so long. The things you are afraid to confess and bring them to the feet of Jesus. There you will find true rest and freedom.
