I wrote this poem about God’s love. Inspired by Psalms 103:11, “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;” As you read I pray that you think more about God’s vast love for you and rest in that love.
My heart beats slowly.
Passion is said to make the heart beat faster,
But your love that stretches past both heaven and earth,
Is so vast that my affections can’t keep up.
They cannot travel through time and space,
And converge into the story of beings lesser than oneself,
Rousing sleeping hearts to a kindling fire within,
That both consumes and brings life.
My heart cannot even make it past the stratosphere,
With earth’s gravitational pull as a tether,
Pulling it down,
Reminding it to never stretch past its limits.
So my heart is left to run far and wide on the ground,
In the prison it’s been confined to,
Searching for a reason to beat faster.
But for you, my heart beats slower.
It has no need to cover vast distances,
Because there is no limit.
Every beat it misses, you beat for it.
And it gradually slows down into a soft rhythm of rest,
As it is enfolded in your love forevermore.
