As we come to the end of February, I wanted to share a poem for the brokenhearted. Love is an incredible thing, but in this life it can also be a painful thing. In Psalm 34, it says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” As we close out his month, let us remember that love is never far from us.
In the high stakes of life,
The petals that drift to the ground
More often than not,
You freeze.
Anticipation of a hard landing,
Or never touching solid ground again.
I see you in the picture frames
Crowded around my home.
The way we separated
Seemed like a lifetime ago.
You were never coming back
To me or anyone else whose heart you broke.
Some nights I look up at the moon
And dream of falling petals.
More often than not,
I weep.
Longing that has overstayed,
And wishes that will never be granted.
In the sunrise though,
I find out you never left the frame.
Still clinging to my thoughts of you.
So out of touch with my heart
My mind could not solve the puzzle.
The maze only gave way to more pain.
Yet the God I love more,
When my heart weeps,
Holds me closer to remind me,
Heartbreak is temporary and life with Jesus is
Eternal.
The petals continue to drift.
