The topic for this month is perfectionism. Perfectionism is something that I struggle with personally. And it has done more harm than good in my life (even though it has been useful sometimes). If you are not watchful, perfectionism has a way of planting seeds of anxiety and insufficiency in our lives. I have also found that it can be a hindrance to our walk with the Lord. If you strive to achieve personal perfection within your Christian walk, you can easily find yourself disillusioned and disheartened. I think Bill Bright says it best, “The Christian life isn’t difficult, it’s impossible—without the power of the Holy Spirit.” I find that surrender is me relying on the power of the Spirit, and perfectionism is usually me relying on my own power. If you struggle with perfectionism, I pray that you are encouraged to surrender this month. And that your eyes are opened to see how the Lord is greater than and works within your imperfections. If you do not struggle with perfectionism, I pray that you are reminded to rely not on your own power, but to trust in God.
