We all struggle with knowing our worth. This world tells us that it should be defined by our occupations, education, wealth, or looks. All metrics that are ultimately meaningless because God, our creator, loves us equally. We are all of equal worth to Him. All worth saving. All worth dying for. That should be our metric. So when we see each other we should know that we by ourselves, can do nothing, but with Jesus we have everything.
The issue of worth is not that we let others determine it. It’s that we make the mistake of determining it for ourselves. (and for each other). Because if there’s anything I’ve learned in this life is how inconstant my own heart is (and yours too). We can’t love ourselves properly because we know all that lies under the calm surfaces. The outside world judges based on assumptions (that are usually wrong) and superficial things (that don’t have any real weight). Is it not the world who says we must determine for ourselves what our worth is? More damaging than the lies that are thrown at us, are the lies we identify with. (the ones we can’t escape). What is your worth when you feel worthless? (the irony of failure). So no. We can’t hold the weight of determining our worth. We have never been strong enough. (not on our own). The Bible says that in our weakness, He will be our strength (the lamb of God). Who better to determine our worth than the one who is constant and everlasting? Our creator is the one who sets the price(enough to die for us). Don’t sell yourself short because you think you know better(we don’t). If you did, you wouldn’t cry at 4am. If you did, you wouldn’t push everyone away when you needed them most. If you did, you wouldn’t need Jesus.
