The new year comes with a lot of hopes and expectations. We often look to improve ourselves, and many make resolutions that they wish to achieve. These are good things, but I think we often forget about God’s role in the lasting change that we see in our lives. As you read, I hope you focus on both the small things and decisions that have shaped who you are today. And take a closer look at how God has shaped them for your good as you have journeyed with him.
When starting anew,
It’s the small things that count,
The small steps that move us forward.
Its never been about greatness,
And performance is not what shapes us,
But the positioning of our hearts determines our paths.
Each and every day,
We walk further down the paths our hearts decide,
Being continuously transformed each time we choose,
God’s way over our own.
And that’s what we really want,
To be transformed,
To be held back by nothing,
To become something that will last and not pass away with time.
Each year is a reminder that time is charging ahead,
And will not tarry for us.
Change must continually occur in the now,
And the past must always be left behind,
So that we are not so much defined by who we were,
But by who we are becoming.
And the new year is a marker for us,
Creating a time stamp that separates the then from the now,
Giving us hope for our future selves.
With true freedom being found,
In trusting that God’s way will lead us,
To the person we are meant to become.
