I think we can often use loneliness as a place to hide. Using it as a fortress, to keep us safe from those around us. Forgetting that, as Christ followers, we are never alone. God is always with us, and keeps us safe. As you read, I pray that you are encouraged this week to trust God with more of your heart. Allowing him to remove anything that separates you from him.
My fingertips run lightly,
Across the textured skin of my face.
It’s upsetting,
How unforgiving imperfection is,
Its bumps and irritation inflame my self-doubt,
And as it catches fire,
Defenses rise,
Trembling fingers abandon their search for smooth skin,
And I reach for isolation to veil my uncomeliness.
I want to hide,
And loneliness has never looked so attractive,
It has never looked so much like salvation.
But salvation is alive,
He has a voice that pierces through even the most chaotic of minds,
And he will not tolerate an impostor,
So when I believe that I have created safety for myself,
He breaches my walls,
Jumps over my fear,
And whispers directly to my stressed heart,
“You don’t need smooth skin but a new heart.
Let me heal you.”
Those words tear the veil that covers me,
And lets in the light.
Allowing salvation,
Jesus,
To clothe me in his perfection,
Bringing an end to the wildfire of doubt.
