As we approach Christmas, I try to maintain some semblance of sanity in between buying gifts for those I love and listening to the same three Christmas songs on repeat every where I go. I know that in many parts of the world Christmas looks different, but ultimately no matter where we are the message remains the same. That God humbled Himself and became like us. Weak and human, to show us that He loves us. That for all our hardships He is right there through it all. This poem served as a reminder for myself that Christmas is about remembering the love, mercy, and grace that has been lavished upon us by a Savior who chose to be like us. And continues to be with us, Emmanuel. I pray for all of us that we continue to focus on the miracle that is Jesus and love one another during this season.
When climbing the endless slope,
Do not look down.
Shades of evergreen cloud my vision.
As we scale up this mountain.
We’ve been given hands
To hold each other when the slope steepens.
We’ve been given arms
To carry each other when the weight is too much.
We’ve been given legs
To run the good race and reach the summit.
Still we forget sometimes that we stand on grace more than our own two feet.
That we breathe in more mercy than we do air.
Jesus is the cornerstone not our vanity.
When climbing the endless slope,
Enjoy the view.
Marvel at the birds and their freedom,
The flowers and their beauty.
We’ve been given eyes,
To see the miracles all around us.
We’ve been given ears,
To hear each others’ cries for help when the road twists.
We’ve been given hearts
To feel God’s love for us even when the darkness comes.
Let’s not forget that we stand on grace.
That the oxygen we need is mercy.
Jesus is our savior.
When climbing the endless slope
Don’t lose sight of who created it.
