Warning Bells

When we are lost, I think it’s often because we have been listening to the wrong voices. Both misleading voices and even our own voices. In 2 Peter 2:18, Peter states that the false prophets of the time spoke “empty, boastful words” and led people astray. And I believe the same type of voices speak out loud today. However, there is only one voice that can bring us peace and contentment.

Warning bells ring softly in my ear,
But I’ve grown accustomed to the sound,
Of clanging hollowness,
Loud voices that draw me in,
Take hold of my attention,
And promise me the world,
Though I feel restless.
And it’s only a gentle whisper,
The quiet and pleasant words of the Holy Spirit,
That soothes my soul,
And brings me to the place I belong,
Eternal love,
Home.
