invisible hole

When God said, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness,” in 2 Corinthians verse 9, I sometimes don’t want to believe it. The world teaches us that we should work towards being strong. That life will make you strong. Even when I look back at some of the darkest parts of my life and I think I was so strong for making it through, I feel my pride rearing its ugly head. Just because I made it through doesn’t mean I did it on my own. If I truly reflect and am honest with myself, I was the worst version of me, the weakest version. It only through God’s grace that I was able to get back on my feet. His mercy and love are everlasting. So by His grace, whenever we stumble or fall, in our weakness, He will lift us up again.

Maybe there’s an invisible hole forming on my ceiling;
That’s why I stare at it for so long.
Or the moon has secrets I’m desperately trying to hear every night.
Or I think the mechanical notes coming from my speaker has all the answers.
I bathe myself in darkness.

My neighbor drowns out his sorrows with white noise and car repairs.
Hands that are busy hurt less, he says.
You see, though, no amount of noise can drown out the symphony of pain I hear every night before I close my eyes.
No work is sufficient enough to distract me from forgetting how to breathe sometimes.

I searched in all the wrong places.
Found every wrong thing that almost seemed right.
Your truth, like a feather, dropped upon me at my worst.
I found abundance when I was lost to everything.
I found forgiveness when I let it all go.
I still look upon that hole in my ceiling sometimes,
When the moonlight surrounds me and the speakers softly hum.
But instead of darkness, I contemplate light.
