The Wind’s Embrace

In the book of John, Jesus tells a Pharisee named Nicodemus that in order to see the kingdom of God you must be born again. And in response to Nicodemus’s confusion, Jesus tells him that he must be born of the Spirit. Stating in John 3:6, ” The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.” In this poem I speak of rebirth, the Spirit of God, and of God’s grace mentioned in the book of John. I pray that you are reminded in this poem that God’s grace is sufficient for you in whatever place you find yourself in.

I often misinterpret the wind’s direction,
Taking a step to the left,
When it nudges me right.
Reaching out my hands to the earth below,
When the breeze lifts my head up to the sky,
Seeking to move in more cyclical patterns,
When i am lead straight forward.
It’s a dance where I never know the steps.
I resist and then surrender,
Grasp for control and then rest,
Conceal my heart and then set it free.
And the wind never leaves me,
It steadies me,
Keeps me upright on my feet,
And never loses patience.
In the embrace of the wind I am being reborn,
And it’s God’s grace.
